So drugs are a hella taboo topic in general, especially within Onision's channel content.
Oregon apparently is passing new laws to decriminalize small amounts of drugs like meth, heroin, cocaine, and MDMA for the sake of replacing incarceration with rehabilitation, and also sites race as being a factor in their decision.
I'm kind of just curious what people think about this?
To me it kinda makes sense, as a way of taking some kind of social responsibility for the drug epidemics in the pacific northwest, but also gives an addict too much leeway. As someone who has struggled with addiction problems, I saw going to jail as a wake up call for the people around me who were going really hard all the time. I think it opens up the potential for overdose in addicts who would have otherwise ended up in jail for what they were doing, but also forces them to take responsibility for their own problems.
there's never an easy answer with these kinds of things. I like the idea of decriminalization for the purpose of rehabilitation vs. incarceration, but it could easily backfire like you've already pointed out. try and see, is the idea, I guess.
good luck to the folks going through hard times related to these substances.
